I already have a brand; err, I mean logo – what’s the difference anyways?

What do we have and what do we need? These are two questions we hear when we meet with clients. Put very simply a logo is what people see when they see your company, a brand, is what people say about you when you are out of the room. Today we’re diving in to talk about common branding terms and what they could mean for your company.

 

A brand refers to the perceived image and the emotional response that is felt by a consumer. Branding spreads through word of mouth which stems from customer conversations on a daily basis. What brands have you talked to your friends about today? Did you devour a burger at Dandy’s? Did you enjoy a great massage or purchase the perfect gift downtown? Whenever you are out with friends and talking about what you did or things you love (or don’t love) you are spreading messages about companies. Your brand becomes the promise you make to your customer. When defining your brand you’ll want to ask yourself several questions; here are a few to get you started:

A brand identity is the package of visual components that come together to represent your company. This is generally determined and laid out in brand guidelines and then used throughout your corporate identity. Your brand identity isn’t limited to just a logo; it’s your colors, your font, your tagline, and so much more. Elements include your business card, letterhead, email signature, marketing collateral, interior and exterior signage, car graphics, apparel, website, social media representation, and the list continues. We start by building your logo in all black to land with the perfect design and then add color. Some questions to think about once you figure out who you want to be:

A logo is the one distinguishable visual representation that customers remember your brand by. It’s included in all of your collateral and is usually an icon, typeface or abstract symbol. Below we’ve included some of our favorites that we’ve created.
